Information for cycling in and around Walton

Cycle Trails

We are keen to be cycle friendly and promote cycling in Walton-on-the-Naze. In the future we hope to develop a cycle leaflet – please get in touch if you are a local cycle group and would like to get involved with promoting cycling in Walton.

The current trails are all suitable for cycling – there are no styles or gates to prevent you cycling. See below for some tips about cycling the trails.

Cycle the Little Explorer Trail

Short trail around the town, all on the road so suitable for road bikes.

Cycle the World War Two Trail

Off road, all on grass suitable for mountain bikes, short ride ideal with children.

Cycle the History Trail

Part road, part footpaths, this trail goes through some narrow pathways where you will need to be aware of pedestrians. Mountain bike recommended as it is dirt pathways in part.

Cycle the Wildlife Trail

This trail is in the main off road and mountain bikes are recommended. Depending on how the paths are mowed in the wet weather (often using a tractor) the paths can be bumpy and quite challenging.

Cycle the Seafront Trail to Clacton-on-Sea

In addition to our trails, there is a cycle path, shared with pedestrians, along the promenade between Walton Pier and The Leas at Frinton. From here you can go up the slope to cycle along the seafront road to Frinton Golf Club, from where there is a dedicated cycle path to Holland-on-Sea, and then road access to Clacton-on-Sea.

Cycle in Walton-on-the-Naze

Cycle around the Naze, and stop for tea and cake in the Naze Tower afterwards.
